Mary Watson, 75
Mary L. Watson, 75, of South Sioux City passed away Friday, Dec. 1, 2017, at a South Sioux City Care Center.
Services were at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5 at Becker – Hunt Funeral Home officiated by the Rev. Edward Treadway. Burial was in Omaha Valley Cemetery, rural Homer. Visitation was from 5-8 p.m. Monday at Becker – Hunt Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Mary was born March 1, 1942, in Moline, Illinois, the daughter of Edgar T. and Florence L. (Emery) Trickey. She grew up in South Sioux City and attended school in South Sioux City. She married Laurence C. “Buss” Watson April 8, 1967, in South Sioux City.
She was employed at Edwards I.G.A., South Sioux City Community Schools, the Co-Op and the Sunshine Grocery all in South Sioux City before retiring.
She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in South Sioux City.
Mary enjoyed bingo, cross stitch and her friendly furry friends.
She is survived by her husband Laurence, many nieces and nephews, cousins and her furry friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Pallbearers will be Shawn and Matt Watson, Greg Cross, Kennen Messimore, Kilee Watson and Ellianna Watson.
Sharon Starzl, 61
Sharon Kaye (Portsche) Starzl, 61, of Emerson passed away Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City. Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, Dec. 1 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emerson by the Rev. Gerald Leise. The visitation was Thursday, Nov. 30 from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Emerson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for future designation. Arrangements were under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Emerson.
Sharon was born Nov. 21, 1956, to Kenneth Portsche and Betty (Wadkins) Goecke in Lincoln. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1975 and attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln where she received her teaching degree. She taught for two years in Hastings and thirty years at South Sioux City School. While teaching, she made many lifelong friends. Sharon married John Louis Starzl on July 18, 1987, and the couple had three children. She enjoyed time and trips spent with her family and friends, working on the farm, reading a good book, and her flowers.
She is survived by her husband, John Starzl of Emerson; sons, Daniel (Jody) Starzl of Emerson, Michael (Kara) Starzl of Emerson; daughter, Elizabeth (Taylor) McManigal of Emerson; grandson, William Starzl of Emerson; sisters, Linda (Kevin) Branigan of Omaha, Pam Kellogg of Durango, Colorado; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, the Lincoln girls, and many special friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Betty Portsche and parents-in-law, Louis and Mary Starzl.
