Four more homeowners have filed lawsuits recently against Big Ox Energy and the City of South Sioux City after sewer odors infiltrated their homes during the fall and winter of 2016. They join 10 other homeowners who have recently done the same.

Juan Campos, Sr. and Maribel Campos, Karen Raymer, Tyler and Saira Muff, and Kathryn Hunt are suing for personal injuries and property damages to their homes.

Court documents for both cases state that the city and Big Ox failed to oversee the sewer system and wastewater treatment facilities, detect toxins and warn or evacuate residents after detection of noxious fumes.

The residents are represented by David Domina of David Domina Law Group out of Omaha and Brian E. Buckmeier of Brian E. Buckmeier out of Sioux City.

Big Ox Energy has appointed attorney Dan Ketcham of Engles, Ketcham, Olson & Keith, P.C. out of Omaha to represent them in the case. City attorney Michael Schmiedt will represent South Sioux City.

In a statement responding to the claims, Big Ox “denies the allegations…and intends to defend itself vigorously.”
