Wayne E. Boyd has received South Sioux City's first ever Hall of Fame Award for his dedicated service to the city during Monday's city council meeting.

Boyd served as city attorney for 50 years in South Sioux City, 28 years in Dakota City and 26 years in Hubbard.

“I always had the city's best interests in my heart,” said Boyd. “This means a lot.”

Boyd is also a past president of the South Sioux City Rotary Club, a past president of the South Sioux City Chamber of Commerce and a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge. He was also elected to the Nebraska Public Power District board of directors, where he served for 31 years, 10 of which as board chairman. He also served as chairman of NPPD's nuclear committee.

“Wayne sat next to me at all those council meetings,” Mayor Rod Koch said. “He was never rattled. It's nice to have that confidence.”

In 2008, the children's room in the South Sioux City Public Library was dedicated as the Wayne E. Boyd Children's Area, in recognition of the Boyd family's longtime focus on the importance of assisting children.

“He has helped me throughout my career at various times,” said Mike Schmiedt, current South Sioux City city attorney and Boyd's successor. “He's a class act.”

In 2014, Wayne was honored as a Nebraska Admiral in the Great Navy of the State of Nebraska by Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts.
